The inception of the school was heralded with the establishment of the nursery and primary schools, which are based on the Montessori education. Dr. Maria Montessori, who became the first woman in Italy to receive a medical degree, first introduced the concept of the Montessori education. She became interested in the education of children through her work as a doctor, treating children with special needs. Dr. Montessori approached educating children as a scientist by using the classroom as her laboratory for observing children and finding ways to help them to achieve their full potential.

She left to the world, a method of education that combines a philosophy of freedom and self- development for children with a practical approach. She believed that all children want to learn and can absorb knowledge without effort if they are given the right kind of activities at the right time in their development by teachers who are trained to observe carefully and respond to individual needs. The philosophy underpinning her work is one of respect and care for al children; this concept governs the nursery and primary school here at St. Mary’s. We operate a highly interactive style of teaching in early learning, with love and patience to promote better assimilation.
